Kim Savage
Bringing Leadership Experience to the COD Board of Trustees Campaign
Kim Savage, 53, was born and raised in Lemont, and attended the village's public grade and high schools. Now a resident of Darien with a depth of professional experience in higher education, Savage is running for a six year term on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees.
Savage, who earned a cum laude degree in mathematics at North Central College in Naperville, has a Master of Education in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, with a minor in Business Administration. She currently works as Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Coordinator of Assessment for Student Affairs at UIC.
Savage has been widely recognized for her achievements in higher education. In 1996, she received the Chancellor's Award of Merit from the University of Illinois in Chicago, and also received the Campus Union Board President's Award of Excellence from the University in 2000. Additionally, she was recently named Who’s Who in American Education (2006-2008) and Who’s Who of American Women, as well as Who’s Who in America (2007-2008), and was named to Who’s Who Among College and University Students in the United States in 1977.
Prior to working at UIC, Savage worked in the student unions at Ohio State University, Oregon State University, and Illinois Institute of Technology.
As a candidate for the COD Board of Trustees, Savage brings to the table a wide range of experience in educational leadership. As a member of the Association of College Unions International, she worked on the leadership team for four years and chaired two committees. She served as the national Public Policy Liaison, representing the association on the Consortium for Government Relations in Student Affairs. She has also held several leadership roles at the regional level and has been published several times in the monthly journal, the Bulletin, which is distributed to members throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2006, she received ACUI Region 8’s Richard L. Christie Staff Leadership Award, which recognizes exemplary service and outstanding contributions to the college union and activities field.
In addition to her work in higher education, Savage is a committed volunteer to several community organizations. She regularly volunteers at the Lemont Area Historical Society, where she is a life member, and she has served on the Board of Directors for the 1000+ member Alford American Family Association.
Savage’s mother, Sylvia Savage a well-known Lemont activist and historian, was a source of inspiration. Her father, William Savage was the first President of the Lemont Band Boosters. She has one son, Nicholas who attends Lawrence University.
